Peggy Joy (Simpson) Hall- Stevenson, age 86 of Knoxville, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Knoxville Hospital. Peggy donated her remains to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Services will be held privately at a later date.

Our beloved mother, Peggy Joy (Simpson) Stevenson was born June 7, 1930, in Hiteman, Iowa, Monroe County to Ralph and Amelia (Mick) Simpson. The Simpson family moved and made a home in the old “Dog Patch” area of Knoxville, Iowa in 1939. She attended and graduated Knoxville High School as Class of ’48.

Peggy married Beryl D. Hall and with this union came three children, Len J, Jeffery Mart, and Lisa Gay. The marriage dissolved in 1966.

She later remarried Lawrence Dean Stevenson who had five children of his own. They all moved to Washington State where Peggy worked as a caregiver for her patients. Being a caregiver was her calling, and she enjoyed assisting them with activities they could no longer do for themselves, often taking them for rides, reading, cooking, and evening bathing them. Peggy found this to be very rewarding.

In her spare time, Peggy liked to read, watch TV, shop for clothing and spend time with her family. She once said, “God put her on this earth to cook and clean.” Peggy was also a member of the Knoxville Sorority since 1950.

Peggy struggled her last few years with health issues, but as she had done throughout life, she dealt with her adversity with dignity.

Peggy will be missed by her children, Len J Hall of Des Moines, Jeffery Mart Hall of Phoenix, AZ, and Lisa Gay Porter of Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren, Carver and Levi Onstank of Iowa City, Iowa; brother, Ron Simpson; nieces, nephews, and many friends.Peggy Simpson

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, “Dean” Stevenson, and her parents.
