Funeral Services for Paul Wayne Rees,
34, who died Feb. 23, at University Hospitals Iowa City, following a short illness, were held Feb. 25 from the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Leonard Deaver officiating.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Evans McCleery Funeral Service.

Honorary casket bearers were Lee Shives, Phil Brown, William R. Scott, Graham Fee, jack Aleff, Carl Schwanebeck, Ralph de Cook, Mike Beard, Folmer Peterson, Bill Thomas, and Alvin Uitermarkt. Casketbearers were Dewayne DeGeest, Kenneth Six, Bruno Avon, Paul Brause, Douglas Surber, Chuck Day, Mrs. Lois Anderson., organist accompanied by Tim Gotta, soloist.

Paul Wayne, son of Carl and Frances Ralfh Rees, was born June 3, 1939, in Knoxville where he graduated from high school in 1959. He then attended the Oklahoma Technical School.

On Nov. 22, 1968, he was united in marriage to Delores Shipley at the Des Moines First United Methodist Church.

Rees, who was serving his second term as Marion County Clerk of Court, underwent surgery Thursday in Iowa City. Rees had been confined to a wheelchair since a childhood
accident.

Services were conducted at the First Methodist Church Monday afternoon
by Dr. Leonard Deaver. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Evans-McCreery Funeral
Service was in charge of arrangements.

Rees had been active in the community,
working with various civic and handicapped organizations and was appointed by Iowa
Governor Robert Ray to the Governor’s Task Force on court reform and the Governor’s
Committee on Hiring the Handicapped.

Rees was a past president of the Knoxville
Jaycees and was currently the vice president of the State Clerk of Courts Association,
a member of the Knoxville Recreation Commission, chairman of the Public Relations
Committee of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber’s Ambassador, and an
honorary member of the Knoxville Rotary.

Rees served as the campaign manager of
the 1972 United Fund Drive and raised $350 in the fall of 1972 by entering his wheelchair
in the White Breast Trail Bike Marathon. Rees had been nominated for 1972
Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.

His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, the former
Delores Shipley: grandmother, Mrs. Lena Rees of Monroe; three sisters, Mrs. Willis (Marjory) Andrews, Mrs. John (Claudean)
Avon, Mrs. Gary (Nancy) Cooney: and three brothers, Robert, Tom, and Richard, all
of Knoxville.

Rees was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rees.
