Norma Ardis (Craven) Borchert, 70, was born June 4, 1938, in Dallas, and passed away on Oct. 23, 2008, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella. The body has been cremated.

She was the daughter of Raymond (Tip) Craven and Laura G. Beebout Craven of Knoxville. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1956.

She was married to Ancil Borchert of Dallas on June 4, 1960, in Bloomfield. The date was also both of their birthdays.

They made their home in the Pleasantville area most of their lives. They were married for 48 years. Though they never had any children, they did have a special young man in their life, Brian (Lisa) Metcalf of Pella.

Norma worked for J.C. Penney and Iowa Paint as a bookkeeper and at the Pleasantville School, doing athletic laundry and in the kitchen. Her main interests included camping at the Iowa State Fair, motorcycling, geneaology and girls’ high school basketball.

Norma and Ancil are members of Fairview Christian Church of Pleasantville and provided dedicated service as janitors for their church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond (Tip) Craven and Laura Beebout Craven and a brother-in-law, Alden Keller. She is survived by her husband, Ancil; one sister, Sandra Keller; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Darlene Borchert Whitlatch and Richard Whitlatch of Knoxville; a nephew, Arnold (Linda) Agan of Monroe; a niece, Karen (Cliff) Jones of Princeton, Ky.; two step-nephews, Jon (Darla) Whitlatch of Knoxville and Joe Whitlatch of Hamilton and special friend Brian (Lisa) Metcalf of Pella.

Memorial services were held at Fairview Christian Church in Pleasantville on Nov. 1 with Jim Cord officiating.

Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview Christian Church or Hospice Comfort House of Pella.
