Funeral services for Nicholas Peter De Jong, 78, of Knoxville, who died December 14, at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville, were held December 17, 1996, at the Tracy Christian Reformed Church.

Burial was at Bethel Cemetery in Tracy.
The Rev. Isaac Meuzelaar, and Mr. Alvin Bandstra officiated at the services. Music was provided by Donna Groenendyk, organist. Pallbearers were Roger Jones, Chad De Jong, Jamie Garcia, Eric Schippers, Michael De Jong, Douglas De Jong, Bryce Kelderman, and Kevin Kelderman.

Nicholas was born March 26, 1918, the son of Corneles and Goverdena Klyn De Jong. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended Central College in Pella, and was a farmer all his life.
Later in life, he drove the Senior Citizen's Van. He was a member of the Tracy Christian Reformed Church, the Gideons, and the Farm Bureau.

He was united in marriage to Donna Gosselink on November 1, 1941, in Pella. She died in 1975.

He married Marie Nikkei on July 7, 1977, in Pella.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Knoxville; two daughters, Shirley De Jong of Knoxville, and Nancy Kelderman of Tracy; two sons, Larry and Terry, both of
Knoxville; a brother, Ernest De Jong of Pella; two sisters, Sadie Albright of Sully, and Dorothy Bokhoven of Pella; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Tracy Christian Reformed Church and the Gideons.
