Funeral services for Neala F. (VanHemert) Heggen, 48, of Des Moines, who died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, were held Wednesday, July 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Des Moines. The interment was at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Neala was born July 14, 1953, in Knoxville to Neal and Margaret (Risewick) VanHemert. She lived in Des Moines since the early ’70s. She worked at Principal Financial as an administrative assistant for almost 30 years.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Pastoral Council at St. Joseph Religious Education Program. She also volunteered at her daughter’s schools.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Jane Dreibelbeis and Brenda Beaver; and a brother, Jim VanHemert.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis M. Heggen, and daughter, Molly Heggen both of Des Moines; two sisters, Carolyn Kamerick and Linda Rankin both of Knoxville; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church or American Heart Association.

Arrangements were made by Grandview Park Funeral Home.
