Molly (Bellamy) Burns, 92, passed away at home on September 27, 2014. She was born January 10, 1922, in Des Moines and grew up in Knoxville.

Her family started the Bellamy Telephone Company which brought the first telephone service to Marion County. Molly worked as a switchboard operator before attending Ward-Belmont Women’s College in Nashville, TN, and later Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

She moved to Kansas City during WWII to take a job as a TWA hostess aboard the DC-3s. In 1954 she married Molly Bellamy
Walt Burns and spent the rest of her life in Des Moines. Tennis was her passion,
and her slicing drop shot gave opponents fits.

Molly was preceded in death by her mother, father, and two brothers. She is survived by three sons, Curt of Des Moines, Jim (Kathy) of Eden Prairie, MN, and John (Suzy) of West Des Moines; and a daughter, Kathy of Reno, NV.

A family graveside service is planned at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Unity Point Hospice.
