Milton A. Johnson of Dover, DE, age 98, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Milton was born on Oct 10, 1919, the son of Joseph Horace Johnson (b.1878-d.1966) and Pearl Eastburn (b.1876-d.1966).

His family moved to Knoxville in 1918. He attended the Knoxville schools graduating in 1937.

Milton proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, having served in both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in business from Grinnell College and went on to work for 35 years at Equitable Life Assurance before retiring. Milton was a long time active member of the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains, NJ. He enjoyed watching sports, but loved to watch hockey, especially his favorite team, the New Jersey Devils. Milton was very independent throughout his life and enjoyed doing puzzles, especially Sudoku.

Milton is survived by his daughter, Patricia Johnson of Newark, DE, granddaughter, Cassandra Timmerman and husband Jeff of Milton, DE; two great-grandchildren: Joshua and Chloe, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Milton is preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Johnson; second wife, Lillian Wilson (Day) Johnson (b.Mar 23,1920-d.Oct.9,1998); son, Andrew M. Johnson, and three brothers: Lowell E. Johnson, (b.1911-d.1991), Carroll (b.1913-d.2001) and his wife Edna (b.1913 – d.2001) and Craig L. Johnson (b.1916-d.1986) and; his sister-in-law, Retha Mae McMillan Johnson (b.1920-d.2011) of La Grange, Ill. and many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Compassionate Care and Westminster Village for their kindness and care of Milton. In addition, the family sends their appreciation to Alison and Valerie who provided care for him, as well as the Jost family in North Jersey.

Services for Milton will be held privately at the family’s convenience.
