Myles Michael Murphy, age 85, of Knoxville, Iowa, passed away, with his family by his side, Tuesday morning, August 24, 2021, at his residence in Knoxville.

Visitation for Myles will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Myles’ family will be present to greet friends and relatives from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a Vigil Service held at 7:00 P.M.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. also at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with a luncheon to follow.

Following the luncheon, a burial, with military honors, will be held at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in rural Knoxville.

Myles was born at home in rural Knoxville, Iowa, on January 17, 1936, the son of Leo Michael and Hazel Gertrude (Harkin) Murphy.

Myles was raised on the farm and attended country school and later he attended 7th and 8th grade at St. Anthony’s Catholic School before graduating from Knoxville High School, Class of 1954. Following high school, Myles served in the United States Army and proudly served his country for two years.

After his service in the Army, Myles attended a three-month farm program at Iowa State University and then began to farm with his family. Myles especially enjoyed raising hogs and he raised hogs and was a feed and animal health salesperson for most of his career.

On June 5, 1965, in Champaign, Illinois, Myles and Mary Jane Miller were united in marriage. They shared 56 years of marriage together and for many years on the family farm where Myles was born.

Myles and Mary Jane have been blessed with five children: Molly, Kate, Colleen, Mike, and Mark.

Myles was a passionate fan of sports; he also enjoyed music and reading the newspaper. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #168, and the VFW Post #3519. Myles had a great talent for volunteerism, and he shared his talent around the community for many years.

Those left to cherish Myles’ memory include his wife of 56 years Mary Jane Murphy; their five children and their families, Molly Murphy, her son Ben Grieshaber, Kate Murphy, her son Matt Murphy-Stull and his partner Mallary Wadle, Colleen Sattler, her husband John and their children Ellen and Claire, Mike Murphy, his wife Stephanie and their children Maddi and Colby Cheney, Mark Murphy, his wife Christina and their children Nick, Alex, Josh, and Zach Murphy.

Myles is also survived by his sister Mary Judith Wadle. He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Hazel Murphy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Myles’ memory to Everystep Hospice of Knoxville or the Knoxville Township Fire Department.
