Michael A. "Spike" Komarek, 53, of Onawa, Iowa passed away peacefully Friday, July 17, 2015 at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Deacon Jimmy Deheer, officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Monday July 20, 2015 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with a Time of Sharing at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Michael Alan "Spike" was born September 27, 1961 in Knoxville, IA, the son of Joe and Mary Claudine (Salsberry) Komarek. He was raised in the Knoxville area. He enlisted in the US Navy and served for 4 years.
Michael was united in marriage to Tracey Saulter on December 25, 1980. Two children were born to this union, Heather and Mikey. He lived with his kids in Arkansas for a short time.
He moved to Onawa and began his working career at Cargill in Onawa, VFW in Onawa, Consumer Supply in Sioux City, various other jobs, and most recently was employed at Ansco Seeds in Whiting, IA.
He met the love of his life Darcy Schulte a few years ago and they were united in marriage on July 9, 2015.
He enjoyed reading, Nascar, Miami Dolphins (especially the cheerleaders), rafting, old TV series, and floating down the river. He loved to mushroom hunt. But he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
Michael is survived by his wife, Darcy Schulte Komarek of Onawa, IA; his daughter, Heather (James) Shockey of Russellville, Arkansas; his son, Michael Komarek II of Russellville, Arkansas; two step-children, Pat (Anne) Bryan of Bellview, NE, and Kelli (fiancé Jessie Bayless) Wilson of Elkhorn, NE; grandchildren, Nikki, Joe, Millie, Kara, Loree, and Derek; stepgrandchildren, Adriana, Riley, Chloe, Amelia, Aiden, and Tasha; his father, Joe Komarek of Onawa, IA; two brothers, Ed (Judy) Komarek of Onawa, IA and Danny (Kathy) Komarek of Onawa, IA; one sister, Brenda (Jeff) Miller of Onawa, IA; father and mother-in-law, Don and Dona Kelly of Oklahoma City, OK: and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Komarek; brother, Fredrick; two sisters, Staci Lynn and Christina Marie, and niece, Mystie Dawn Kreimeyer.
