Mike Lee Brady, age 63, died May 24, 2010 at his home in Searsboro, Iowa Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2010 at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. The Rev. John Epperson officiating.

Mike was born the son of Robert and Norma Munn Brady on April 9, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised in Carlisle, Iowa, Knoxville, Iowa, and Akeley, Minnesota. He graduated from Akeley High School with the class of 1965. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Nelson on Aug 21, 1998, in Newton, Iowa.

Following his education, Mike moved back to Iowa and lived in Knoxville and Chariton respectively.

He worked as a mold setter for Maytag in Newton, Iowa for 33 years until his retirement in 1999. During a labor strike while employed at Maytag, he worked for a construction company that was building the mile-long bridge near Knoxville. Mike was a member of the local United Auto Workers Union #957 of Newton for many years.

Mike was an outdoorsman who loved boating fishing, mushroom hunting, traveling, bird watching, and taking pictures of nature. He was also a very good cook and enjoyed preparing the holiday meals for his family.

He dearly loved his family and his dog Pedro.

Mike is survived by his wife Phyllis Brady of Searsboro; his step-children, Bob Roach, Leslie Christianson, and Brian Roach, all of Chariton, Iowa, Jessica Clementi of Grinnell and Kris Clementi of Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; his brother, David Brady of Des Moines; and his sister, Debbie Simmons of Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Shawn Brady in 1991.
