Michael Philben, 60, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at his home in Grimes. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 13, at the Church of the Brethren in Dallas Center. Burial will follow at the Woodward Cemetery in Woodward.

Mike was born in Neligh, NE, on October 2, 1953, to Frank Michael and Patricia Ann (Krause) Philben.

He grew up in Knoxville, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1972.

Mike later married and had two children, Heidi Beth and Michael Lee Philben.

He worked at Tyson Foods for over 25 years as a scale operator which brought him to Woodward where he met and married Nancy “Nan”. Mike enjoyed fishing, golfing, singing, dancing and cheering for the Hawkeyes. His passion was focused on his kids and grandchildren in all their endeavors.

Mike will always be remembered for entertaining family and friends with his jokes and many stories.

Mike is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nancy, his children, Heidi Noah of Woodward and Mike Philben of Grimes; his mother, Patricia (Pasquale) Alessandra of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Taylor and Clayton Noah; and his siblings, Peggy Manning of Knoxville, Danny (Samantha) Philben of Glenwood Springs, CO, Kerry (Judy) Philben of Knoxville and Mary Jo (Don) Noftsger of Melcher; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Gregory Alan and James Patrick; a sister, Jana Marie Dennison and his brother-in-law P.J. Manning.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center.
