Merrill David Breese, 39, son of Noah and Roxie Breese, was born on a farm south of Knoxville, on June 16, 1910 and died on Nov. 6, 1949, at the Greater Community hospital in Creston, Iowa.
Merrill attended the public schools in Knoxville, graduating from High School in 1928. He was also a student at Iowa State college in Ames. In 1919, Merrill became a member of the Christian church, during the pastorate of Rev. Walter Sandy.
In 1943, Merrill was united in marriage to Margaret Nichol. To this union there were born two sons, Tyler Louis, and Terry Ray.
For a number of years Merrill was in business in Ames, and at the time of his death, was employed by the Wickes Engineering Company of Des Moines. He served in the army during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion.
Merrill had a great love for his family and was sincere in his desire for the future welfare of his sons. He was of a kind disposition and looked upon the sunny side of life. Even though he had not been well during recent years he was not one to complain. He faced life with steady eyes and a noble spirit.
His fatal illness was of short duration. He was taken to the hospital at midnight on Saturday and death came about noon on Sunday as a result of a brain tumor. Merrill is survived by his wife and two sons, his parents and a brother, Donald, of Fremont, Neb., other relatives and a great host of friends.
Funeral services were held Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. E.O. Barrow. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery, under the auspices of American Legion Post 168.
