Merle Richard Pope, 75, died April 29,2010 at the Lucas County Health Center at Chariton, IA. Merle was born on December 30, 1934 near Bussey, IA to Nellie and Jarrett Pope.
Merle was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Maytag.
Merle is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Don Pope, a sister Jean Beezley and a son Allen Pope.
Merle is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Avice, brother, Jack Pope of Lovilia, IA, sisters: Phyllis Holmes of Davenport, IA, Sylvia Webster of Sheldahl, IA and Carolyn Larson of Carlisle, IA; daughter-in law, Lorri Lester; daughter, Marcia (Mike) Wilson of Humeston, IA and daughter, Janice Whitmarsh of Bellevue, NE.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Kerri Palmer, Tom Wilson, Jennifer Palmer, Mallory Pope, Robyn (Zach) Reiter, Emily Pope, Angela Wilson and Mick Wilson.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 3, 2010, at Fielding Funeral Home.
Family met with friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 2, 2010.
Interment is in the Liberty Cemetery at Bussey, IA. Officiating was Rev. John Watson.
Pallbearers were Tom Wilson, Mick Wilson, Todd Lester, David Pope, Donivan Pope and Dale Webster.
