Melvin L. Vander Linden, 77, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at NewLife Church in Pleasant Hill. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Melvin was born June 14, 1938 in Oskaloosa to Roy and May (Priaulx) Vander Linden. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School,Class of 1956, and moved to Des Moines where he met his future wife, Sharon Comp.

He worked for Meredith Corp in Data Processing. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, fixing cars and Sprint Car racing. Melvin's faith was very important to him, and throughout his life he was active in his church and supported many ministries.

In his younger years he helped on his family's dairy farm and enjoyed participating in Future Farmers of America. Later he also enjoyed attending Gospel music sings and volunteered at Freedom for Youth Ministries.

Survivors include his children: Lynn (David) Block of Bondurant, Diane (Michael) Kaut of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren: Joshua, Andreas, Morgan, Tyler and Rachel; sisters: Avice Pope, Myrna (Ray) Poli of Chariton; many nieces and nephews. Melvin is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Thursday at Iles Grandview Park Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a fund to be determined. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
