Matthew Bryce Strunk was born on September 1, 1987, in Knoxville, Iowa, to William and Naomi Strunk. He was called home on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Matthew grew up in the Knoxville area and graduated from Knoxville High School in the Class of 2006; where he participated in sports and marching and jazz bands.
Following graduation, he spent four years of dedicated service in the United States Marine Corps, which included combat tours in Iraq. After his time in the military, he worked for the US government as a security contractor in Iraq, Puerto Rico, and stateside assignments. After returning to the Des Moines area, he was most recently employed installing fiber optic cable.
Matt was always outgoing and loved to live life to the fullest. His primary love was music, especially his drums, which he dearly loved playing at every opportunity. Matt’s many friends will always remember his ability and the big smile emanating from behind the drum set.
Matthew loved his family and friends. There was a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews. He was often found playing with them or just holding the little ones while they slept. The loss of his kindness, laughter, and caring will leave a large hole in the hearts of all who knew him.
Matthew is survived by his parents William (Jean) Strunk and Naomi (Robert) Fowler; brothers Jonathan (Dusty) Strunk, William A. Strunk, and Nathan (Leslie) Warren; sister Audra (Brandon) Williams; seven nephews and two nieces.
