Mary Bernice (Stickle) McCoy was born on June 4, 1922, in rural Knoxville to Marcus Stickle and Marie (Fisher) Stickle.
She was raised in rural Knoxville and attended Highland Country School and graduated with the Knoxville High School Class of 1939.
On March 9, 1943, she married Herbert Arnold McCoy at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxville. Mary and Arnold farmed south of Knoxville for the first nine years of their marriage before moving to their farm in rural Dallas.
Mary purchased a home in Knoxville, where she has lived for the past 8 months. Mary had many interests; she was a dedicated homemaker and farmwife. She also enjoyed traveling with Arnold to tractor shows for many years.
She had a green thumb and always planted a vegetable garden and cultivated numerous house plants. Her greatest joy in life was her family; she was very proud of and dedicated to her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Altar & Rosary Society, the Knoxville Garden Club, and the Farm Bureau, whose tent she worked at during many county fairs.
Mary died on Nov. 12 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 83.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Herbert Arnold McCoy in 1998.
Survivors include three children, James (Janice) McCoy and John (Connie) McCoy all of Knoxville, and Mary Malanson (George) of Iowa City; 4 grandchildren and her brother, Robert Stickle of Knoxville.
Mass of Christian burial was on Nov. 16 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Mark P. Spring as the celebrant
Interment was in Graceland Cemetery
