Mary Martha (McDonald) Peek, 77, of Riverside, formerly of Knoxville, Iowa and Mt. Carroll, Illinois, went to heaven on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a courageous battle with cancer with family by her side.

Funeral services for Mary will be 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at the Free
Methodist Church in Knoxville, 505 E. Marion Street. Burial will be in the Greenwood
Cemetery in Knoxville. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Free Methodist Church in Knoxville.

Mary Martha McDonald was born on June 24, 1934, in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Ethel (Vanderlain) McDonald.

Mary worked for Pella Windows and then became a nurse, working at the Savannah Hospital in Savanna, Illinois, and the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
Mary was a past member of the Methodist churches in Lanark, Illinois, and Knoxville, Iowa, and a Cub Scout leader in Lanark.

Mary volunteered for Bible Study Fellowship, taking care of the Leader’s children for 3 years, and also volunteered at the Riverside Museum. Mary enjoyed working in her flower gardens, cooking, Christmas baking, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, music, cleaning her house, and shopping with her friend, Pam Simpson, but most of all, Mary loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Barry Wineland of Knoxville, Iowa, Marty Wineland of Wheatridge, Colorado, Curtis J. Peek and his wife, Nancy of Arvada, Colorado and Pamela Kron and her husband, Louis of Riverside; grandson Rhett Peek; step-grandchildren, Dustin Coomes, Tyler Coomes, Becky Kron, Tony Kron, and Kurtis Kron; step-great-grandchildren, Riley Coomes and Adalyn Kron; two sisters, Zella Brown and Ruby Dop both of Knoxville and both ex-husbands, Marlin Wineland of Pleasantville,
Iowa and Ronald D. Peek of Lone Tree.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Raymond “Shorty” McDonald, Walter “Fats” McDonald, Frank “Tuttles” McDonald, Isaac “Ikie’ McDonald, Thomas “Copie” McDonald, and Johnny McDonald.

Visitation for Mary will be on Wednesday, February 8, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside and 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church in Knoxville on Thursday.
