Mary Louise (Malone) Hulgan was born on May 23, 1930, in Columbia, the daughter of James
and Alta Long Malone. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1948.

She married
Kenneth D. Hulgan on June 5, 1949, in Knoxville. They lived their entire married
lives in Knoxville. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Mary worked for
the Peoples Store and Fashion Fabrics in Knoxville for many years.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Hospice of Central Iowa, and American
Business Women’s Association. Mary was very skilled at sewing and quilting. She
also enjoyed gardening and especially spending time with family and friends.

Mary passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Westridge Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center, at the age of 78.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by death
by her husband in 1984, her sister, Shirley Taylor, and one grandson, Ben Hatch.
Mary is survived by one son, Kenneth (Nancy) Hulgan of Knoxville; two daughters,
Nancy (Stephen) Hatch of Knoxville and Deb Gries of Lincoln, Neb.; two brothers,
Jim (Linda) Malone of Mountain Home, Ark., and Robert Malone of Knoxville; one sister,
Norma Haning of Knoxville; two granddaughters, Michelle (Sam) Demarie of Ames and
Jennifer (Craig) Douglas of Newton; three great-grandsons and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 29 at the First United Methodist
Church in Knoxville with Rev. Art Hill officiating.

The internment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of Iowa, United Methodist
Women or the Comfort House of Pella.
