Mary Sue (Clark) Goodyear 72, Maple Grove, MN, passed away peacefully December 7th from complications due to PAH.
Sue was born on Oct. 4, 1937, in Victor, IA to Dr. Thomas and Ella Mae Clark the youngest of three children.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David, her brother, Thomas, and her sister, Marjorie.
After graduating from Knoxville, IA high school Sue attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA. It was at a University of Iowa football game that she met the love of her life, a quiet ex-marine named David (Dave) Goodyear. Together they raised two sons, Michael and David. Moving to the Minneapolis area in the early 1960’s she raised her family in homes in Anoka, Brooklyn Park, and Buffalo before settling in Maple Grove.
Sue was very active. She was the tough fielding shortstop for the Coon Rapids Clinic softball team for a number of years before being stopped by a bum knee. She loved to travel on cruises with Dave and together they traveled throughout the Caribbean.
One of her great memories was their trip to London to experience the London theater scene. When both of her siblings fell ill due to cancer, Sue put her career on hold to help take care of them. When her husband fell ill with cancer, Sue was the primary caregiver coordinating care with members of the hospice team.
Sue worked in the healthcare industry all of her life. She was a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technicians. Sue worked at a number of clinics in the Minneapolis area including the Coon Rapids Clinic, the Columbia Heights Clinic, and the Allina Maple Grove Clinic.
The family would like to thank the many friends and family members of Sue’s who was a part of her life. While there were many who touched and were touched by this wonderful woman, the family would like to mention her close friend Muggs Lerberg, Judy Hanson, Deb Patnode, Marilyn Francois, Grace Howard, Kay Geis, Donna Olson and her family, her sister-in-law, Kathleen Clark, Nancy Varner, Jim Perryman and all of her wonderful neighbors.
Additionally, the family would like to thank Jamie Cotter and Dr. Charles Gensmer at Northwind Lung Specialists, Dr. Ed Gould, and Dr. Eric Carls.
Sue is survived by her two sons, Michael and David, and their families; daughters-in-law, Julie and Maureen; grandchildren, Sean, Cameron, Gillian, Elizabeth, Katharine, Charles, and David as well as her two puppies ” Normy” and ” Squirt”.
