Marvin Dean “Sonny” Harvey was born July 27, 1935, in Knoxville, Iowa the son of Wesley R. Harvey and Jesse (Heaberlin) Harvey.
He attended Knoxville Schools and then entered the United States Air Force in 1954.
On June 16, 1958, Sonny was united in marriage to Patricia Marie Russell at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. To this union four children, Wesley, Nadine, Mike, and Stephanie were born.
Prior to his retirement in 1974, Sonny had been stationed in Texas, Germany, Indiana, Montana, Washington Las Vegas, California, and Turkey. Following his discharge, Sonny and Pat moved to Pleasantville. Sonny then worked for Agan Plumbing & Heating, DeVore Motors, and Ulrich Ford.
In his spare time, Sonny enjoyed riding mules and camping and fishing with his brother, Ben in Canada. Sonny’s greatest joy was his family; he was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.
Sonny passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 82 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Stephanie Brooks, and his brother, Ben Harvey.
Those left to honor Sonny’s memory include his wife, Pat; children: Nadine (Mark) Vickroy, Wesley “Rusty” Harvey, and Mike Harvey; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings: Melvin (Theresa) Harvey, Bob (Bobbie) Harvey and Freida Mae Karr and many other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service for Marvin “Sonny” Harvey, age 82 of Pleasantville, will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at the Mason Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa, at a later date.
