Martha “Marty” Anderson, 82, of West Riverside Drive, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away
Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Carlsbad Medical Center.

There will be no visitation; cremation will take place. A memorial service is scheduled
for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Gene
Harbaugh officiating. Private interment will be held at First Presbyterian Church
Columbarium, Carlsbad, N.M. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Martha “Marty” Anderson was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Palmyra, Ind., to Andrew Jackson
and Carolyn C. (Lair) May. She grew up in Knoxville, Iowa, and graduated from Knoxville
High School. Marty received a BS in education from the University of North Iowa.
She moved to Carlsbad in 1952. Marty married Merl “Andy” Anderson on May 29, 1955,
here in Carlsbad.

She taught at the Air Field School at the old airbase for several years. Marty also
taught at Eisenhower Junior High and Monterrey, Pate and Emmitt Smith elementary
schools. She retired in 1992. Marty was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian
Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, co-superintendent of Sunday school,
sponsor of the youth group and involved in the Logos Program.

She loved animals and helped establish Cat’s Meow and volunteered there for
six years. Marty collected dolls and antique dishes. She was also a member of the
P.E.O. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merl “Andy” Anderson;Martha May
and brother, Bill May.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Anderson, and wife, Judy of Hobbs, N.M.; and grandson, David Ryan Anderson of Las Cruces, N.M.
