Funeral services for Martha Leah (Hegwood) Karr, 76, of Knoxville, who died April 8, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held April 11, 1996, at First Baptist Church in Knoxville. Burial was at Coal Ridge Cemetery in Marion County.
The Rev. Roger T. Goodson officiated at the services. Music was provided by Renabell Adams, organist, and Barbara and Irv Westberg, vocalists. Pallbearers were Kevin Arkema, Steve Ethell, Jerry Hegwood, Walter Kingery, Roger Metcalf, and Gary Miller.
Leah was born January 3, 1920, in the Coal Ridge area, the daughter of Gertrude Patch and Jessie Silas Hegwood.
She taught rural schools for many years. She completed her teaching career as a substitute teacher at East and West Elementary Schools in Knoxville, where she worked with disabled and educationally challenged children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Knoxville, where she was a member of the church choir.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Kenneth Karr on April 19, 1942, in Unionville, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; seven brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Vinson of West Des Moines; a sister, Marie Metcalf, of Pleasantville; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Knoxville.
