The daughter of Chester Padgett and Nancy (Wilson) Padgett, Marilyn was born on June 29, 1943, in Harvey, Iowa. Marilyn always remembered growing up in Harvey with her cousins. She graduated, in 1961, from Knoxville High School.

Marilyn was a stay-at-home mom until 1977, raising her three kids. She went to work for Kemin Industries where she spent 27 years doing sales and customer service. After retiring, Marilyn worked at Gateway, where she was always a friendly and familiar face for anyone who would come into golf or just hang out.

In her spare time, Marilyn enjoyed many different things. She was always working in her garden or out planting flowers. Her house would always be made up on the outside with flower beds. She enjoyed gambling, having a beer on her porch, and working at Gateway.

Her grandsons have many fond memories: playing numerous games of Monopoly with Kyle, enjoying cooking chicken for Grant, and playing cards with Jared and Butch. The grandkids always remembered attending the state fair with her as well. As Marilyn would often say, “I’m the mother,
The party is over.”

Those left to honor Marilyn’s memory include her children; Julie (Mark) Smith and Angie (Jim) Landgrebe, grandchildren; Jared Smith, Kyle Landgrebe, and Grant Landgrebe, a sister; Virginia Seibert, the Wilson cousins, and she will be greatly missed by her Pleasant Street friends and neighbors.

Preceding Marilyn in death are her parents, a son; Brian Dale Vander Linden (1990), a brother; Larry Padgett, and a brother-in-law; Kerry Seibert.
