Marilyn (Bruce) Haning, 82, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Bright Kavanagh
House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Marilyn was born on February 23, 1930, in Knoxville, Iowa to Carl and Hazel (Jones)
Bruce. She was the second of two children born into this union.

She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1948 and married the love of her life,
Bob Haning, on July 24, 1948 in Mankato, MN.

Marilyn worked while still in school at Filliman’s grocery store, as a secretary
at a law firm, and as a clerk at the Neal Book Store and Mattingly Music for many
years. She also worked in the lunchroom at Northstar Elementary until her retirement.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Vernon Bruce, and
her husband Bob. She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Nielsen and Mindy DeZwarte,
of Knoxville; one son, Bruce Haning of Elbert, Colorado; sister-in-law Margery Bruce
of Knoxville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Pat Haning of Knoxville;
seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who
was kind and generous. She was an excellent cook and baker and will long be remembered for her Christmas candy and cookies.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, May 4 at 11 a.m. at the Community
of Christ Church in Knoxville with a committal service at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery
at 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or to her church.
