Graveside services for Marcellene “Mike” Louise “Kingery” Nichols, 72, of Knoxville, who died Thursday, Jan 9, 2003, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held Saturday, Jan 11, at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Elder Bill McDonald officiated at the services. Casketbearers were Dwight Carter, Leonard Lyle Carter, Kevin Cook, Kyle Forst, Jim Nichols, and Steve Waters.

Marcellene “Mike” was born on July 1, 1930, in Dunreath, Iowa, to Mabel Alice Deitrick and Frederick Raymond Kingrey. She attended country schools until her 8th graduation. She then came to Knoxville where she graduated from Knoxville High School in 1947.

On June 1, 1947, she married Robert C. Nichols. To this union, two children were born. Marcellene was a devoted wife and mother as well as devoted to her entire family. She enjoyed having her family in for holiday dinners and the Sunday afternoon coffee times. Her home was always a haven for friends and family. She was an avid reader and crafter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Kingrey; two brothers-in-law, Bert Breen and Don Haug and one grandson. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert
C. Nichols of Knoxville; a son, Robert R. Nichols of Knoxville; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Bard Giltner of Batavia; three sisters, Fredene and husband Corky Ravera
of Knoxville, Colleen Haug of Knoxville and Esther Breen of Pleasant Hill; a sister-in-law, Virginia Kingrey of Monroe as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Knoxville Rescue Unit. Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
