Services for Madge Maretta (Wilson) Sterling, 77, of Knoxville, who died Feb. 5, 1988 at Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held Feb. at Williams Funeral Home.
Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.
Rev Marvin Platt officiated at the services. Music was provided by Darlene Mooberry, organist, and Barry and Arlene Barkey, vocalist.
Pallbearers were Jim and Steve McKinstry, Dolvin Miland, Dennis, Randy, and Robert Wilson.
Mrs. Sterling was born Dec. 9, 1910, in Marion County, the daughter of William N. and Bertha Scott Wilson.
On Jan. 14, 1933, at Unionville, Mo., she married Everette A. Sterling.
A school teacher, she retired in, 1975 and returned to Knoxville after living in Lovilia and Ottumwa.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977; her parents; two sisters, Isabelle Cecil and Maxine Wilson; two brothers, William and Scott; one son-in-law, Gerold VandenBerg; one granddaughter, Lynda Beekhuizen; one grandson, Mark Sterling; and one great-granddaughter, Sarah Gutcher.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn VandenBerg of Albia and Mrs. Jim (Karen) Courtney of Grand Island, Neb; three sons, Richard and Jack of Knoxville and Glenn of Newton; One foster son, Larry Glassburn; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne of New London; and three sisters, Essie Wilson, Marguerite McKinstry, and Mildred Priaulx, all
of Knoxville.
A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church.
