Lyle “Louie” Dean Shaffer, age 75, of Knoxville passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at his home in Knoxville.

Lyle was born on September 10, 1935, in Newton to Clifton and Ruth (Bennett) Shaffer. After Ruth’s passing, Clifton married Velma Hodges.

He attended country school and later attended school in Knoxville. Louie worked as a laborer all of his life working at the sand plant, K and W Underground Cable and he helped build Red Rock Dam.
On June 18, 1994, Louie married Tina See in Olathe Kansas.

Louie enjoyed country music, being outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, taking rides, and watching wildlife. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Tina Shaffer of Knoxville; his four children, Danny (Lucy) Shaffer of Ottumwa, Debbie Gaffey, and Randy Robnett of Exline, Dave Shaffer of Knoxville, and Dodie Shaffer and Darryn Dugan of Knoxville; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Lyle is also survived by three brothers, Larry, Lowell, and Les Shaffer; a brother-in-law, Joe See; two aunts, Beulah McDaniel and Helen DeHaai; a friend, Chelsea Mundy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; and two infant sisters. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Tharp-Winfield Funeral Home in Albia.Lyle Shaffer

Burial will follow services at Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Tharp-Winfield Funeral Home in Albia, with Louie’s family present from 4 to 6:00 p.m.
