Lyle Langebartels, 61, partner and owner in Langebartels Clothiers here for 40 years, died in a tractor accident on his farm on the west edge of Knoxville late Friday afternoon.
He was operating the tractor to clear snow to the feedlot of his herd of Angus cattle when it backed too near the edge of a ravine and tipped over on him. He was found by Richard Bailey, an assistant in the clothing store, who had gone to the farm to investigate when he had not returned to the store until around 4 o’clock.

Funeral services were held yesterday (Monday) at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Lawrence Beals officiating Interment in Graceland Cemetery. Evans Arlington Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Langebartels had been active in civic affairs here all of his life. He was a former president of the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, had been a member of the Knoxville School District board of directors for 9 years, and was a leader in the Boy Scout organization here for some 25 years.

He had held a number of official positions in the First Methodist Church and was chairman of the board of trustees at the time of his death.
He was a partner with his brother, Marvin, in the clothing business until several years ago when Marvin retired and had been the sole owner since that time, Lyle had planned to retire this year.
