Lyle Melville Hegwood was born at Coalport,, July 3, 1900 and died suddenly September 12, 1936 at Knoxville, Iowa at the age of 36 years, 2 months and 9 days.

Lyle had suffered a great deal from rheumatism and heart trouble and had been in the Davenport and Iowa City hospitals four times for treatments of those ailments. He had suffered from a heart ailment for 15 years.

For the past eight or ten years he had worked for the Consumer's Oil Co., and since leaving them had been with the Sinclair station at West End. About a week ago he started work at the Kirkwood D-X station.

Previous to his work with the oil companies he had been employed by Swift and Co.
He lived on the farm until he was 23 years old and then came to town, where he has since made his home with his brother, Bruce, and family.

He leaves to mourn his death, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Hegwood, five brothers, Paul of Winetka, Ill., Bruce G., Leo K., Delmar J., and John N Hegwood, two sisters, Anna M. and Leah M Hegwood, all of Knoxville and vicinity.
Lyle graduated from the Knoxville high school in 1920.

He united with the Coalport Baptist church October 13, 1915 and continued his membership there until his death.
He lived a quiet consistent Christian life. He was ever kind to all about him and always ready to do a good turn for others whenever the opportunity occurred.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Coal Ridge church, with Rev. Albert Vander Ploeg in charge. Burial in Coal Ridge cemetery.
