Leslie S. Burnett, a former Knoxville resident, died after a brief bout with cancer on Jan. 9, 1989, at his home in New Cumberland, Penn.
Mr. Burnett was born on Jan. 6, 1931, in Gary, Indiana to Leslie Shaw Burnett Sr. (b.1902-d.1944) and Myrtle Williamson Burnett.
He spent most of his school years in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville schools.
He was chief of the division of labor relations Bureau of Personnel, for the State Dept. of Public Welfare, and was a retired Army chief warrant officer. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and a member of VFW Post 7530.
Burial services will full military honors were held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Jan. 11.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Rumi Burnett, and two daughters, Teresa B.
Lawrence of Portland, Texas, and Dr. Michelle K. Burnett of Fort Sill, OK; two brothers, Raymond of Des Moines and James of Earlham; two sisters, Betty Swarthout of Chariton and Bonnie Anderson of Knoxville; and two grandchildren.
