Leila Pearl (Hindman) Wilkins, age 96, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove.
Private graveside services were held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2008, at the Ida Grove Cemetery.
Born October 3, 1911, near Knoxville, Iowa, Leila Pearl Wilkins was the daughter of William R. and Nina (Wells) Hindman.
She grew up and attended school in the Knoxville area, then graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa. Leila taught English and drama at several schools in the Knoxville and Pella areas.
On July 19, 1935, she was united in marriage to Clarence R. “Tiny” Wilkins. The couple made their home in Ida Grove in 1945, where they owned and operated Wilkins True Value Hardware for many years.
Leila was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in
Ida Grove. She enjoyed playing bridge, was an excellent cook, and took great joy in her family.
Survivors include two children, Lynn (Dr. Lenly) Gearhart of Wilsonville, OR, and Steve (Diane) Wilkins of Ida Grove; four grandchildren, Glen (Jenica) Wilkins, Teresa Gearhart, Bradley (Lois) Gearhart, and Rolf (Lauren) Gearhart; four great-grandchildren, Seth, Nicole, Jacob, and William Gearhart; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
