Lawrence John Breuklander was born on September 25, 1921, in Pella, Iowa, the son of John and Tryntje (Oostrum) Breuklander.
He was the oldest of four children. Early childhood was spent in Pella, Monroe, and then Knoxville, where he graduated from Knoxville High School in 1939. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1943.
He was united in marriage to Aimee Harvey on July 29, 1944, and the couple raised two daughters, Linda and Dixie. Lawrence enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the aircraft carrier, Bon Homme Richard, as an Aerologist, until 1946.
He then enrolled at Iowa State University, receiving a Masters’s Degree in Chemical Engineering in December of 1947. Lawrence was employed at Monsanto Chemical Company from January 1948 until his retirement in 1982. Many years of his life were spent enjoying hunting, target shooting, and continuing his education.
Lawrence passed away on September 7, 2013, at the de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 91 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marion Breuklander, and sister, Leona King.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 69 years, Aimee; daughters, Linda Breuklander of St. Louis, Missouri, and Dixie (Charles) Conine of Arlington, Texas; grandson, Mitchell (Julia) Conine of Temple, Texas; granddaughter, Aimee (Greg) Hernandez of Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandsons, Grady and Ethan Conine; sister, Joan (Lloyd) Kinner of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister-in-law, Delores Breuklander of Knoxville, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Richard King officiating. Burial will follow in Breckenridge Cemetery in rural Knoxville.
