Services for Lawrence “Larry” Carroll Shappell, 55, Knoxville, who died of cancer Thursday at his home on Sept. 16, 1993, were Sept. 20, 1993, at the Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. The Rev. Aaron McCombs officiated at the service.
Music was provided by Darlene Mooberry and Richard Hunt.
Pallbearers were Marion Friday, Vance Friday, Jim Sherlock, Kenneth Six, Harry Vander Veer and Herman Wilkes.

Larry was born on March 12, 1938, the son of Edna Lois McVey and Marion Leslie Shappell. Larry spent all of his life in Knoxville. He graduated from Knoxville High School in the Class of 1956 and later served in the United States
Air Force for six years. Upon his return to Knoxville from the service, he operated Larry’s Body Shop for many years.

He was a member of many civic and service organizations
including Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) Lodge No. 90 in Knoxville and the Oriental Lodge
No. 61 A.F. & A.M. (Masons) Za-GaZig Shrine in Des Moines. Larry was also a member
of the First Christian Church in Knoxville. He was active in all these organizations
until his health forced him to curtail his activities.

On Nov. 23, 1971, he was married to Naomi Germaine Des Camps Kline at the First Christian Church in Knoxville.
Geri and Larry made their home in Knoxville but spent many days camping and traveling
in the travel trailers they purchased.

Larry would buy a trailer and then almost, completely rework it so it was the way he wanted it.
The couple had many fun times and met many good friends while they were camping.
Larry had most recently worked for 3-M Manufacturing in Knoxville as a machine operator.
He had worked for more than 13 years and enjoyed it.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles.

Survivors include his wife of Knoxville; one step-son, Junior Kline of
Knoxville; two sisters, Doris Piekema of Story City and Dorothy Richardson of Des
Moines; one step-granddaughter and one step-great-grandson.

The Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville was in charge of the Arrangements.
