Kelly James Hegwood, 53, of Newton, Iowa, was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on December 14, 1966, to Ronnie and Burnice (Baumgarten) Hegwood.

He attended Knoxville High School and spent most of his early life in the Knoxville, Iowa area. Kelly’s first employment was with The Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa where he was employed for 23 years until it closed in 2004. During this time he and Lisa Meek began sharing their lives together.

Kelly then worked part time for his brother, Jody Hegwood, at L & J Enterprises and later became the manager of an apartment complex in Knoxville for Bismark Park Avenue Properties.

Most recently Kelly was a care giver for some of his 16 grandchildren until his health necessitated hospitalization at Mercy One at Des Moines, Iowa in June, 2020.

Kelly remained hospitalized there until his death on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2020, at the age of 53 years.

Kelly and his wife Lisa, have been together for 30 years. She survives him along with their children: Ashley Hegwood of Knoxville, Adam Hegwood of Knoxville, Anthony (Heather) Woxell of Des Moines, Iowa, Tiffany Jones of Newton, Iowa; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kelly leaves his mother Burnice and step-father Mike Viehdorfer of Knoxville, his step-mother, Dianne (Ron) Hegwood of Ray, North Dakota; two brothers: Jody (Rachelle) Hegwood of Knoxville, Doug (Shadell) Faircloth of Columbus, Ohio; and three sisters: Leanne Gerdom of Knoxville, Missy (Travis) Rettig of Ray, North Dakota, and Mindy Mann of Williston, North Dakota; along with many nephews and nieces.

Kelly was preceded in death a grandchild, Braidon Woxell, his father, Ronnie Hegwood; his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Jean Baumgarten and his paternal grandparents, Harold and Lucille Hegwood.

Kelly loved to fish and hunt with his family and friends. All who knew him said that he had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.
