Kathie Lou, age 60 of Knoxville, passed away Monday evening, September 9, 2013, at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Emergency Room.

Kathie Lou (Baumgarten) Hull was born at the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa on August 10, 1953, the daughter of Martin Carl and Marjorie Susanna (Dittmer) Baumgarten. Kathie was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School, Class of 1971. After high school, she went to floral training in Texas.

During high school, Kathie began to work for Knoxville Greenhouse. She worked at the greenhouse for 15 years before she began her floral shop, “Flowers by Kathie”. Kathie owned and operated her flower shop a few years before she began her interior decorating business. For many years Kathie painted, hung wallpaper, and decorated many houses around the Knoxville area.

On January 10, 1974, in Unionville, Missouri, Kathie, and Ronald Bruce Harvey were united in marriage. They were blessed with two children: Russell and Amie. Kathie and Ronald later divorced in 1987. Kathie began dating Donald Joseph Hull. They shared many happy years together and were married on August 29, 1997. Kathie and Don were blessed with 16 years of marriage.

Kathie was an excellent cook. She enjoyed canning and gardening. She was a talented artist and was especially known for her faux painting techniques in interior design. She loved her family and throughout the years her many dogs.

Kathie is survived by her husband Don Hull of Knoxville; her children: Russell Harvey of Pella and Amie (Kerry) Nichols of Knoxville; stepchildren: Billy (Dawn) Hull of Newton and Ann (Burt) Kingery of Knoxville; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Kathie is also survived by her sisters: Elaine (Bob) L’Heureux of Estherville, Sue (Rick) Flander of Tracy, and Lorie (Curt) Jager of Eddyville; one brother, Lyle (Elaine) Baumgarten of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Kathie will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, with Kathie’s family present from 6 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 13th also at the Winfield Funeral Home, with Elder Bill McDonald officiating. Burial will follow services at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.
