Karen (Geery) Wardenburg, was born in Knoxville on July 30, 1945, to Edwin and Geraldine Geery, the 4th of 10 children.

She passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, at UIHC in Iowa City. She was raised in Harvey, IA, and lived several years in Cedar Rapids, Knoxville, and most recently, Marion.

Karen & Roger Wardenburg were married for over 40 years, were members of the Veterans Public Safety Unit in Cedar Rapids, and worked very hard together doing maintenance at the Knoxville Raceway/Campgrounds and as Knoxville School bus drivers.

Karen loved reading, decorating, gift-giving (especially at Christmas), thrift shopping, crafts, cooking for others & baking her famous pies, but most of all, she loved the Lord and her family.

She lived a simple, but hard-working life.

She was Mom to Angela, Jennifer, Vickie, and Darrick; a very proud & loving Oma to Clay, Kit, Reneé, Felicia, Phillip (Melissa), & Michelle (Jake); and great-grandchildren Norah, Hunter, Silas, Selena, Dominick, Sawyer, Bear, & Brinlee.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters Jennifer (Rob) Taylor of Marion and Vickie Wardenburg of San Antonio; daughter-in-law Chrise Layng; sisters Joyce Vander Werff, Lisa Geery-Dale, and Susanna Geery; sister-in-law Wanda Geery; her brothers Hank (Pat) Geery, Alan (Becky Lane) Geery, and Clint (Ronda) Geery; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law Loretta Johnson; husband Roger; son Darrick; brothers Gerald Geery, Edwin Geery Jr., and Darroll Geery; and brothers-in-law Allen Wardenburg & Wayne Vanderwerff.

Services are Thursday at 10:30 AM at Winfield Funeral Home, Knoxville, IA with visitation Wednesday 5-7 PM.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriner’s Hospital of Minneapolis or her family.”
