Services for Joseph Frank (36) and Ashley (32) Greubel, who passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1700 W. Second Ave., Indianola, Iowa.
[Joseph and Ashley Greubel were killed in an auto crash with a semi on Highway 69 near Indianola, Iowa].
Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Liberty Center Cemetery, Liberty Center, Iowa.
Joseph Frank Greubel was born on Oct. 25, 1980, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Frank and Patricia (Marek) Greubel. Joe grew up very active in 4-H and FFA, played youth sports, enjoyed community projects, showed rabbits and goats at the Iowa State Fair and had a green thumb for landscaping. Joe graduated from Knoxville High School Class of 1999 and continued his education at Indian Hills Community College.
Joe was a loving father of three and loving husband to Ashley. He was full of life and had an infectious laugh and smile that will be remembered by friends and co-workers at Hy-Vee and the Warren County Road Department.
Ashley Rashell (Spear) Greubel was born on March 26, 1984, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Ron and Lola (Tigner) Spear and was the youngest of three children.
From a young age, she thoroughly enjoyed athletics and the outdoors. Family and friends were Ashley’s passion. She grew up spending summer vacations with her brothers Trevor and Casey, along with her parents, on the water jet skiing, camping and playing softball. Her two older brothers taught her from the beginning how to be competitive and successful all the while remaining daddy’s little girl.
At the age of 16 after a softball injury which ended her sports career she started to work at Casey’s and remained there for 15 years. Ashley graduated from Southeast Warren High School and attended Grand View University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with endorsements in reading and instructional strategist – level 1.
She began her teaching career in the Saydel Community School District and after seven years she transferred to the Indianola Community School District where she was a devoted sixth grade special education teacher and volleyball coach.
Ashley was loved dearly and didn’t know a stranger. She had countless friends and was a favorite aunt to all. She will be remembered for her love of children, contagious smile and beautiful heart.
Joe and Ashley were united in marriage on March 17, 2003. Together they raised their three children Alexis, Ashton and Keely. Joe and Ashley’s lives revolved around their children and all their activities. They loved to watch the kids practice, play ball, dance in recitals and play in band as well as just spend time with their children. Their children are and will always be the center of their world.
Joe and Ashley were active members of the Christian Union Church in Indianola participating in activities including softball, church camp and Ashley attending a mission trip to New Mexico with Alexis.
Those left to cherish their memory are their three children Alexis, Ashton and Keely; parents, Frank and Pat Greubel and Ron and Lola Spear; siblings, Josh (Amanda) Greubel and Jessica Greubel, Trevor (Amy) Spear and Casey (Amy) Spear; nephew Benen and niece Nya Greubel, nephew Michael Greubel and niece Autumn Greubel-Taylor, nieces and nephew Tatum, Tinley and Hank Spear and niece Lilliana Spear; grandparents, Mary Marek, Wyona Shupe, Gilbert and Joanne Spear; as well as many other loving family and special friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norbert and Rose Greubel, Bob Marek; and an uncle Joseph Marek. Ashley was preceded in death by her nephew and niece, Grant and Harper Spear; aunt, Brenda Gass; grandparents, Marion Tigner and Darl Shupe; great-grandparents, Frank and Vera Spear and Kenneth and Flossie Butler.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the Indianola First Assembly of God Church with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Greubel Family Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo. Joseph F. Greubel was born the son of Frank and Pat Greubel.
He graduated with in Knoxville, Iowa with the Class of 1999.
Joe was united in marriage to Ashley Rashell.
INDIANOLA, Iowa — An Indianola couple died when their car collided with a Hy-Vee semi-truck just south of Indianola on Tuesday morning, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.
The accident happened at approximately 3:50 a.m. when a car in the southbound lanes on Highway 65/69 crossed the center line and crashed into a semi. The crash caused the highway to close for several hours as troopers investigated the scene. It reopened by 9 a.m.
