John Martin Sutherland, age 62, died at home in Monticello, Mn, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, from complications from Parkinson’s and dementia.

Born on December 22, 1953, in Knoxville, Iowa, he graduated from KHS in 1972

John had a passion for C B Radio, His call sign was ” Long John Silver”, John always had a fascination with audio-visual technology. While attending Central College in Pella, Iowa for Communication and Theater he was a disk jockey at KCUI radio station.

John married Amy Eckheart class of 1973 on Nov 13, 1977, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. A son and daughter were born shortly after.

John found a career with Northwestern Bell where he worked for 30 years as an installation tech. John and Amy relocated to Minnesota where he lived for 20-plus years in a country home near Glencoe, MN. John Sutherland

John enjoyed gardening, bonfires, and reading jokes in Readers Digest.

John is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Amy of Monticello, MN; brother Dennis (Linda) Sutherland of Marion Iowa; son Jason (Tray) Sutherland of Rogers MN; Daughter Pauline (Maty)
Meyer of Waverly, Iowa; grandchildren Raina Sutherland, Rachael, and Hannah Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Helen Sutherland.
