John Oliver Kamerick, age 84 of Knoxville, passed away Sunday evening, November 27, 2016, at the Knoxville Hospital in Knoxville.
Visitation for John will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. John’s family will be present Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
John’s wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service for John will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Military honors will follow services. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery of Knoxville.
John was born in Knoxville, Iowa August 12, 1932, the son of John Martin and Ruth Caroline (Craig) Kamerick.
John grew up in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School, Class of 1950. After graduation, John worked with his uncle in shoe sales before, being drafted into the Army. John served his country from 1953 to 1950 during the Korean Ward. After returning home from service John enrolled and attended the University of Iowa on the G.I. bill.
On September 2, 1956, at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville, John and Carolyn Jean Van Hemert were united in marriage. They began their home in Iowa City where John graduated with his degree in business in 1959. He worked at Iowa State Bank in Iowa City for four years before moving back to Knoxville in 1963.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years Carolyn Kamerick of Knoxville; their children, Katie Todd of Knoxville and John Marc Kamerick and his wife Tiffany of Des Moines; and four grandchildren, Aaron Todd, Alex Todd, Lindsey Kamerick, and Jonathan Kamerick.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Martin and Ruth Kamerick; and his sister Dorothy Heuer.
A memorial has been established in John’s memory to HCI Hospice of Marion County.
