John Roderick Johnson, 87, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at NHC Health Care Center.

He was born June 2, 1927, in Flagler, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Henrietta Berryman Johnson. He attended Flagler Country School and Knoxville High School. He lived 54 years in Knoxville, Iowa; three years in Eldorado, Ill. And moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., in December 1985. John married Marjorie May Swayne Jan. 5, 1947 in Knoxville, Iowa.

John operated a Conoco service station for 10 years. He and his wife, Marjorie, were the owners and operators of Fairlane Bowl for almost 20 years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with many friends and relatives.

On May 12 of this year, he lost the love of his life, Marjorie, after 67 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by son, Rodney Ray Johnson; brothers, James, Daniel and Frank Johnson; sisters, Inez Floyd and Esther Malone.

He is survived by son, Dennis Lee Johnson and wife, Dori, of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Lisa Clark and husband, Kevin, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Kenny Johnson of Knoxville, Iowa, Tony Johnson and wife, Jennifer, and Jaci Jones and husband, Jason, all of Oak Ridge; and nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services at Oak Ridge Memorial Park will be private.
