Graveside services for John Henry Dieken, 37, of Knoxville, who passed away Nov.
24, 1991 at the Knoxville VA Medical Center, were held Nov. 27 at Graceland Cemetery.
Rev. Roger Brandt officiated at the services.
John was born on July 29, 1957, the son of Harold and Beulah Jane Vahkamp Dieken in Tilden, Neb. He grew up in the Knoxville area and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1972.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1975. After being discharged from the service, he worked as a carpenter in several different communities on the East Coast. He returned to Knoxville in
1988 and continued his work as a carpenter.
John was a big fan of sprint car racing and never missed a Saturday evening at the Knoxville Raceway. He was preceded in
death by his paternal and maternal grandfathers, and his paternal grandmother.
He is survived by his parents, Harold Dieken and Joan Isley, and Bea Dieken; four sisters,
Gail Murphy and her husband, Donald, and Mary Hauenstein and her husband, Harold, both
of Knoxville, Lois Orchard and her husband, Jerry, of Salina, Kan., and Carol Hoffman
and her husband, Marty of Carroll; two brothers, Bob and his wife, Sally, and Paul,
both of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews as well as a number of aunts, uncles
and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the University of
Iowa Foundation AIDS Clinic.
