John Edward “Ed” De Joode was born April 23, 1936, to John and Lavon (Abrahamson)
De Joode, north of Knoxville, Iowa.

Ed grew up on two different farms northwest of Knoxville. He attended country schools through eighth grade, and was a 1955 graduate of Knoxville High School. He worked different jobs after graduating, and worked for Rolscreen where he met his wife Eunice Elsloo. They were married on June 27, 1957. To this union, six children were born.

Ed also worked at Standard Oil Station, White Way Auto, Benson Chevy Garage, Vermeer Manufacturing, Van Zee Implement, De Vries Electric and Arnold Motor Supply.

Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and restoring old cars and tractors. He restored a 1951 Ford car and a 1936 Ford. He also enjoyed gardening and fixing things.

Ed was a member of Heartland Reformed Church where he served as an elder.

Ed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eunice of Pella; five children: Rita Van Baale, Bryan (Katie), Jolene, Douglas, Lori Ann; his grandchildren: Jessica (Chris) Miller, Alicia (Kurt) Briles, Joshua (Amy) Van Baale, Stacy (Trent) Sikkema, Dustin De Joode, Aaron De Joode, Brandon (Karla) Kane, Hailey (Stephen) Roland, Matthew (Alison) Kelly and Sabin De Joode; and fifteen great grandchildren. John Edward died October 4, 2020 and is alsosurvived by his siblings: Carl (Linda) De Joode Jerry De Joode, Paul (Dorothy) De Joode, and Bonnie Mosher; and his sisters-in-law: Nancy (Bob) De Joode, Dorothy Nunnikhoven, and Mary Elsloo.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents John and Lavon De Joode, his infant son Arlen Dean, his sister Carol Borcher, his brother Bob De Joode, his parents-in-law Tim Sr. and Jeanette Elsloo; and his brothers-in-law: Gene Nunnikhoven and Tim Elsloo.
