Joan Sylvia (Hayes) Klobnak, age 79 of Hamilton, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Joan was born in Pleasantville, IA to Austin and Clara (Wallace) Hayes on July 18, 1932. She married Ronald J. Klobnak in Pleasantville on June 18, 1952. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1996.

Joan graduated from Melcher High School, Class of 1950. As a teenager, she worked in restaurants in Knoxville and Melcher. She later was a Teacher’s Aide and EMT in South Dakota, and a Home Health Aide in Marion County.

Joan was a member of the Bussey American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary. She taught Sunday School and enjoyed reading, singing, dancing, and going to the Soda Pop Saloon in Chariton. She loved spending time with her family, and it’s well known that she was an excellent note-taker.

Joan is survived by her children, Ron (Tina) Klobnak of Mayetta, KS, Rodney Klobnak of Columbia, MO, Lydia Klobnak of Hamilton, and a son-in-law, Bud Poe of Albia; 13 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Clark of Melcher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Janice Klobnak; an ex-daughter-in-law, Sharon Saunders, and her son, Matt.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald; two children, Nathan Klobnak and Elizabeth Poe; and siblings, Delbert Hayes, Rita Stanley, and Terry Hayes.Joan Hayes

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, August 12, 2011, at Tharp-Winfield Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Brian Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Tharp-Winfield Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 PM.
