Joan B. (Deeringer) Crall, age 73 of Lovilia, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella.
Joan was born September 10, 1941, to Don and Bertine (Slykhuis) Deeringer in Knoxville, IA.
She graduated from the Knoxville High School with the class of 1959. On May 14, of 1960 she was united in marriage to William C. Crall at St. Anthony's Church in Knoxville, and to this union 3 children were born, Mary, JoAnn, and Billy.
Joan was a homemaker before going to work at the Chicago Rivet Factory in the mid 1980's. She also helped Bill with work on the farm.
In her younger years, Joan enjoyed league bowling and making flower arrangements. She was an excellent cook, baker, and a talented seamstress. Joan was very giving with her food, donating dishes to the church and other organizations. She was very nurturing and delighted in spending time with family and friends.
Joan is survived by her husband, William C. Crall, of Lovilia; her children, Mary (Steve) Haagenson, of Virginia Beach, VA, JoAnn (Steven) Reed, of Oskaloosa, IA, and Billy (Joy) Crall, of Lovilia; nine grandchildren, Eric (Mercedes) Haagenson, JoAnna (Mitch) Roland, Ashley Provenzano, James (Emily) Provenzano, Tyler Crall, Josie Crall, Brandon Ray, Brooks Cole, and Dakota Cole; 3 great-grandchildren, Zane Haagenson, and Landyn and Cicealee Roland; a brother, Bill Slykhuis and two sisters, Donna Thornburg and Kayi Shilling. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Debra Bennet, a brother; Bud Deeringer, and nephews, Jeff Shilling, Rick Sager and Paul Sager. Joan is also preceded by 2 brother-in-laws, Jack and Pat Crall
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. Officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Cemetery in Weller.
Visitation will be held from1 p.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Joan's family will be present from 4- 8:00 p.m. A 4:00 p.m. rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary society and a wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
An open memorial has been established in Joan's name.
