Jerry Dean Harvey, son of Smith Edward “Bill” and Helen Agnes (Carter) Harvey, was born on April 7, 1933, in Otley, Iowa.

Jerry spent his childhood in Otley and Knoxville where he graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951. He participated in and earned athletic honors in football, basketball, and baseball.

Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Joyce Bales, on July 28, 1951.

They were married 48 years before Patsy was taken by cancer on September 22, 1999.

Jerry worked early on as a Marion County surveyor and tractor operator, and at Parsons Mfg. Dumpster factory. He also worked at Croziers D-X gas station, Mormons Feed as a salesman, and hauling feed for Hudson Hybrid Co. He painted, did wiring, and farmed.

He spent over 40 years with Iowa Power and Light where he was a truck driver, apprentice, and journeyman lineman, line foreman, and serviceman. He retired in 1995.

Jerry lived in the Knoxville area for the majority of his and Pat’s early life together before moving to his 80-acre farm just west of Pleasantville in 1962. The family moved to Indianola in June of 1978 and Jerry returned to the farm in 2000.

Jerry passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 27, 2016, at the West Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Iowa at the age of 83 years and 20 days.

His family includes his two sons, Steven Dean Harvey of Miami, OK, and Billy Guy (Christina) Harvey of Pleasantville, IA; three daughters, Joyce Lee (Craig) Metcalf of Pleasantville, IA, Sue Ann (Jim) Steinke of Omaha, NE and Judy Kay (Ronald) Keesey of DeWitt, IA; 31 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, a brother Robert (Carol) Harvey of Colorado Springs, CO and several nieces and nephews.Jerry Harvey

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, parents Bill and Helen Harvey, and in-laws Guy and Oneita Bales.

Memorials may be made in Jerry’s name to be designated at a later date.
