Jeanne Marie (Poston) Edwards/Cox age 76 of Knoxville, Iowa passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Jeanne was born on December 29, 1929, in Fort Dodge, Iowa the daughter of Harold
and Dortha Mae “Shelton” Poston. She lived in many different communities during
her childhood. She graduated from Knoxville Community Schools in 1947.
She was united in marriage to Ralph E. Edwards in 1946 at Knoxville, Iowa.
Ralph passed away on June 5, 1954. Jeanne took upon the task of raising her 3 young
sons following Ralph’s passing and did so lovingly and thoughtfully.
Jeanne worked for Midwest Energy for many years as an engineering assistant.
She retired in 1986.
She was united in marriage with Loyal “Babe” Cox on August 2, 1975, in Washington,
Iowa.
Jeanne always loved to bowl. She even formed the Cox & Edwards Christmas Bowling
Tournament. Jeanne also enjoyed swimming at the Knoxville Rec Center as long as
her health allowed her to. She loved to cook meals for her family, and enjoyed all
the times she was able to be with all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and extended family.
She is survived by her husband, Loyal “Babe” Cox of Knoxville; three sons:
Ralph ”Butch” Edwards and his wife, Bev of Des Moines, Terry Edwards, and his wife,
Dianna of Knoxville and Steve Edwards and his wife, Ruth of Livermore, California;
one step-daughter, Sherri Eake, and her husband, Gene of Ft. Madison; two step-sons,
Dennis Cox of Las Vegas, NV. and Mike Cox and his wife, Connie of Indianola; one
brother, Richard Poston and his wife, Gail of Newton; fourteen grandchildren and
11 great-grandchildren.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Ralph, and one
brother, Robert Poston.
The family requests that memorials in her name be made to the Jeanne Cox Scholarship
Fund at Knoxville Community Schools.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 am Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at the Williams
Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Interment was in Graceland
Cemetery. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles Wings.” Serving
as casket bearers were her grandsons Curtis Edwards, Matthew Edwards, Joshua Edwards, Chauncey Edwards, Jay Cox, and Joe Schippers.
Williams Funeral Home of Knoxville assisted Jeanne’s family.
