Janice Eugenia (Koons) Hoffman was the sixth of ten children born to James D. Koons and Winifred (Crook) Koons Gilchrist. She was born on December 15, 1942 near Knoxville, Iowa. Janice completed her formal education graduating from Knoxville High School.
On October 29, 1959, she was united in marriage with Clarence Edward “Junior” Hoffman, at Chariton, Iowa.

To this union, Janice and Junior were blessed four children:
Cynthia Ann. David James, Timothy Andrew and Keith Edward.
Clarence operated Hoffman
Appliance for over 35 years. He helped people repair their appliances in the Pleasantville,
Knoxville and Indianola area. Junior and Janice loved to go bowling, either together
or alone, it made no difference. They continued this hobby for over 30 years. They
also traveled together and took trips to Alaska as well as various places in the
U.S. Janice and Junior rode motorcycles together. Junior had a Gold Wing Honda,
which was a bright, sparkly shade of green.
Clarence passed away on Sunday, December
1, 2002 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 61. After his death Janice
was “on the go”, she traveled extensively to bowling tournaments and activities.
She was a member of the USBC and the “T” League, which she was very active in. She
participated several times in the Iowa Games bowling division.
Janice was diagnosed
with Acute Myeloid Leukemia just five weeks before her death. She battled diligently
but succumbed to her illness of Friday, October 1, 2010 at the age of just 67 years.

Those left to mourn her passing are her four children; one daughter, Cynthia Holder,
Pleasantville, Iowa; three sons, David Hoffman of Pleasantville, Timothy and Carrie
Hoffman of Des Moines, Iowa, and Keith Hoffman of Des Moines; eight grandchildren,
Aimee Baker, Aaron Cole, Tim Hoffman Jr., Jamie Hoffman, Nicholas Hoffman, Kelsi
Hoffman, Brittany Holder and Raymond Holder; six great-grandchildren, Andrew Baker;
Aurora Baker, Samantha Baker, Kendall Holder, Jordyn Holder and Chance Hoffman.

Of her original family Janice leaves four siblings, Marilyn and Gene Britt of Des
Moines, Roger and Brenda Gilchrist of Columbia, Iowa, Danny and Shawna Gilchrist of Oskaloosa, and Haldean and Connie Gilchrist of Knoxville, and a sister-in-law,
Jackie Koons of Newton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence; her
parents, four siblings, Jerry Koons, Dixie Koons, Harla Eich and Diana Gilchrist.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. St. Anthony’s
Catholic Church, Knoxville, Iowa Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery,
Knoxville, Iowa Visitation will begin Monday afternoon at the Williams Funeral Home,
with the family present Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family prefers
memorials be given for the Leukemia Foundation.
