Jane Ruth “Janie” Utterback was born December 20, 1945 in Knoxville, Iowa the daughter of James K. and Sibyl (Donahue) Riherd.

Janie graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1964. She worked as a secretary at Maytag in Newton and later for the Bill Hardin Law Office in Knoxville.

She was married to Gary Clingman and they had three children: Chris, Lori and Lisa. Janie then stayed home and raised the children. Later she hung wallpaper and did interior design work.

On January 20, 1992 Janie was united in marriage to Randy Utterback. The couple made their home in Newton. Janie managed a local Casey’s which subsequently became Pronto. Janie and Randy also enjoyed living in Fairhope, Alabama for a few years.

In her spare time, Janie enjoyed decorating and fishing. She also loved her cats. She and Randy also had many wonderful camping trips through the years. Above all else, Janie cherished her family and her many dear friends.

Janie passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024 at her home in Newton at the age of 78 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sibyl; her daughter, Lisa; sister, Sally Riherd; sister-in-law, Shirley Riherd and in-laws, Gene and Doris Utterback.

Those left to cherish Janie’s memory include her husband, Randy; children: Chris (Kathy) Clingman, Brian Utterback, Brad (Shannon) Utterback, Lori (Sean) Krumboltz and Becky (Brad) Stephens; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers: William Riherd and Phillip (Barbara) Riherd; brother-in-law, Rick (Karla) Utterback and many other family members and friends.

Janie has been cremated and a private graveside will be held at Red Rock Cemetery in Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion County Humane Society.
