James V. “J.V.” Hollingshead, age 87, of Knoxville, passed away April 4, 2012 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

He was born to George Lee and Thelma Mae (Rowley) Hollingshead on May 3, 1924 in rural Knoxville, Iowa, on the family farm.

J.V. attended Knoxville High School and was very active in the Knoxville FFA program and sports. After graduation in 1942 he started farming in the Knoxville area.

J.V. married Wilma F. Pearson on July 1, 1944 in Sigourney, Iowa. They were blessed with over 67 years of marriage and five children; James Lee, Jack Wayne, Judy F. JoAnn and Jerry Dean.

J.V. and Wilma lived and farmed in Marion County all their lives. James also worked as a substitute rural mail carrier. Later, he worked at the V.A. Hospital for over twenty years, and after his retirement from the hospital, he drove a Knoxville school bus for several years.

J.V. and Wilma shared a love of farming, milking cows, mushrooming and gardening. They passed this passion onto their children and grandkids. He was a devoted family man.

He enjoyed attending numerous school and sporting activities of his children and grandchildren. J.V. was well known for pulling practical jokes on others and loved the laughs they brought.

He is survived by his wife Wilma of Knoxville; three sons James Lee (Janice) Hollingshead of Knoxville, Jack Wayne (Linda) Hollingshead of Columbia, Missouri, and Jerry Dean (Karen) Hollingshead of Knoxville; two daughters Judy F. (Tom) Kamp of Knoxville and JoAnn (Greg) Lee of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren Tammy Sue (Hollingshead) Sells, James “Jamie” Lee Hollingshead, Jeffrey Wayne Hollingshead, Matthew Wayne Hollingshead, Holly Anne (Hollingshead) Perryman, Tracy Michelle (Kamp) Douglas, Todd Donald Kamp, Amy Jo Lee, Angela Michelle (Lee) Uitermarkt, Shalene Marie (Hollingshead) Morrison, and Kelby James Hollingshead; and 16 great grandchildren Samantha Marie Sells, Alexandria “Lexi” Leigh Sells, Ned Keeton Hollingshead, Matthew James Hollingshead, Mitchell Lee Hollingshead, Sydney Marie Hollingshead, Paige Nicole Hollingshead, Caroline Elizabeth Hollingshead, Katelyn “Kate” Elise Hollingshead, Adam Andrew Perryman, Emily Victoria Blankenship, Erica Lauren Blankenship, Bronson Thomas Kamp, Decklan Lawrence Kamp, Tara Jo Uitermarkt, and Carson James Uitermarkt.
J.V. is also survived by one brother William Hubert Hollingshead of Tracy; one sister Betty Mae Catrenich of Knoxville and many other relatives and friends.
J.V. was preceded in death by his parents George and Thelma.

Visitation for James will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 11th, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, with J.V.’s family present from 5 to 7:00 P.M.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 12th, at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville, with Rev. Lane Riggle officiating
