James Edward Cummings was born February 20, 1927, in Rural Marion County to Loren
H. and Mary E. (Sims) Cummings. Following his graduation from Knoxville High School
in 1944, Jim enlisted in the Air Force. He served his country from December 26,
1950 to September 24, 1954.

Jim was united in marriage to Ada Mae Langebartels on
June 29, 1952, in Knoxville. The couple first lived in Illinois, returning to Knoxville
in 1954, where they were engaged in farming. Ada Mae passed away on March 28, 1995.
Jim was later united in marriage to Ethel McIntyre on January 23, 1999, in Knoxville.
Farming, hunting, and traveling were things Jim enjoyed during his life.

Jim was
a fair board member for 33 years and a dedicated board member of the Knoxville Speedway.
During his farming career Jim also raised purebred livestock, sold seed corn and
delivered watermelons and pecans. In his later years, Jim loved to do puzzle books
and read. Spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren grow up were
also special.

Jim passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Hospital
in Des Moines at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 13 days. He was preceded in death
by his parents, wife, Ada Mae Cummings, grandson, Timothy Husted and a brother,
George Cummings.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ethel Cummings
of Knoxville; sons, Larry (Debbie) Cummings of Knoxville, Don (Sherry) Cummings
of Pleasantville, Randy (Lynn) Cummings of Story City; daughter, Connie (Mike) Husted
of Knoxville; grandchildren, Troy Husted, Blake and Damien Prevo, Carly and Connor
Cummings, Cole and Carson Cummings; 3 step-children; brother, Eugene (Norma Jeanne)
David Core of Knoxville, Iowa, and Denny (Pam)
Cummings of Knoxville; sister, Dorothy Vanden Berg of Indianola, along with other
relatives and many friends.
